Payroll consultancy from people who actually run payrolls
We run payroll for more than 150 organisations, and we have delivered over 100 HR and payroll system projects. So when we tell you what is likely to go wrong with yours, it is because we have had it go wrong and then had to fix it.
When people usually call us
Rarely when everything is fine. Almost always one of these four.
The payroll is wrong, and nobody can say why
Errors keep appearing, corrections keep being run, and every explanation is about the last one rather than the pattern. Somebody needs to look at the whole thing rather than the latest symptom.
You are choosing a payroll system
Four demonstrations have all looked excellent, the scoring matrix is not helping, and the decision is starting to come down to who was most likeable on the call.
Payroll is about to move, in or out
You are bringing it in house, or handing it over, and you would rather not learn what that involves on the way through.
You are one person deep
Your payroller has left, is leaving, or has been off, and the whole thing turns out to live in their head.
What we take on
Four kinds of work. All of it fixed price wherever the shape of the job allows it.
Payroll system selection and implementation
Requirements written in your language rather than a vendor’s, a shortlist that fits how you actually pay people, demonstrations run to a script so you are comparing the same things, and a business case that survives your finance director. Then, if you want us to, we run the implementation as well.
A payroll health check
A fixed piece of work that tells you what is really happening in your payroll. Where the errors come from, what your compliance exposure looks like, what the process costs you in hours rather than in fees, and what would break if your payroller left tomorrow. You get it in writing, and a conversation about it.
Bringing payroll in house, or taking it out
Both directions. What it costs either way, what you need in place before you start, how the data moves, how the parallel run works and who does what in which week. We have done this from both sides of the arrangement, which is less common than it sounds.
Interim and cover payroll management
Somebody who has run payroll sitting inside your team for a period, covering absence, a vacancy or a peak. Not a temp who needs training first, and not a consultant who watches while you do it.
How an engagement runs
01
A conversation, and it is free
Twenty minutes or so. You tell us what is happening, we ask the questions that tend to matter, and we tell you whether this is something worth paying anybody to look at. Sometimes it is not, and we will say so.
02
A scope and a price, in writing
What we will do, what we will not, who we need from your side and how long it will take. Fixed price wherever the shape of the work allows it, so the bill is not a surprise.
03
Something you can actually act on
Not a deck that restates your own problem back to you. A recommendation, the reasoning behind it, and the next steps in an order that works.
We also run payroll, and you should know that
Worth saying plainly rather than burying it. LitE is a payroll bureau as well as a consultancy, and a fair proportion of these conversations end with us running the payroll, because once somebody sees what theirs really costs them in hours they often decide they would rather not own it.
That is not the point of the engagement. If keeping payroll in house is the right answer for you, we will say so and then help you do it properly, and we will not spend the rest of the work selling to you. If handing it over is the right answer, you will hear that too, and you are perfectly free to hand it to somebody else.
Why us rather than a consultancy that has never run one
We are on both sides of this. We advise on payroll systems, and we sit in front of them every month running real pay runs for real people. That is a different kind of advice.

Tell us what is going wrong
Twenty minutes on the phone is usually enough for us to tell you whether we can help, and whether it is worth paying anybody to look at it.
